Firefly Childrens Home

About our Home

Firefly Children’s Home (FCH) is a registered charitable trust (CC30432) based in Kathmandu, Nepal. We work in partnership with PA Nepal founder Indira Ranamagar. FCH cares for Nepalese village children whose parents have either passed away, disappeared, are imprisoned or are too poor to feed them. There are over 50 Firefly children who live in either our central Kathmandu home or our rural home in East Kathmandu. In a country where there is no social security and the political situation is highly controversial, FCH provides a unique opportunity for abandoned children and orphans to be educated at a private school and to be loved and cared for in a family-like environment. We want to see these children go out and make a difference in the world – the world that is giving them a chance today.

Background

Travellers Amanda Kyne (New Zealand) and Nonna Lamponen (Finland), who shared an interest in helping Nepalese orphans, joined forces in 2004 to establish the Orphan Help Center (OHC). In 2009, Amanda and Nonna teamed up with Nepali social worker Indira Ranamagar (who founded Prisoners Assistance Nepal), and OHC was re-registered as Firefly Children’s Home (FCH) under the umbrella organization PA Nepal. In 2014, the organization “Make Learning Possible” was founded by Marion Prost, to represent Firefly in Europe.Together, these women have created a home for children that exceeds most orphan centres. The tight-knit team aim for a friendly family environment with a focus on love, nutrition and education. Do browse our website for more information!

Firefly Childrens Home

We provide Nepalese orphans and vulnerable village children with a safe home in a family-like environment and an education. Previously known as the Orphan Help Center, Firefly Children’s Home (FCH) is a registered charitable trust (CC30432) based in Kathmandu, Nepal.

The home cares for Nepalese village children whose parents have either passed away, disappeared, are imprisoned or are too poor to feed them. There are 40 children living in the home, 21 of which are sponsored by FCH sponsors. The aim of FCH is to do more than provide food and clothes for the children. In a country where there is no social security and the political situation is highly controversial, FCH provides a unique opportunity for abandoned children and orphans to be educated at a private school and to be loved and cared for in a family-like environment.

We want to see these children go out and make a difference in the world – the world that is giving them a chance today. If you would like to help, there are a number of ways you can do this by:
- Sponsoring a child from our home, either in full or sharing the cost with other sponsor(s)
- Making regular, ocassional, or one-off donations
- Becoming a volunteer if you are travelling to Nepal and can commit for a minimum of one month
- Helping us spread the word! Tell all your friends and family about us
